"We have just returned from our six day culture and birding tour with David Mead. Dave delivered in spades.

When we first approached Dave we knew in broad terms what we wanted - exposure to early history of the area, both Indigenous and European and good birding opportunities with someone who was expert in both wet tropics and dry land birding.

We spoke to Dave and he had a think about what he could put together that would meet this broad outline. He came up with a detailed but flexible program where we were met at the airport in Cooktown and delivered back to Cairns via the spectacular coastal route.

In between we enjoyed Cooktown, Laura, Mount Molloy, Julatten and other birding places Dave knew were going to be worthwhile. Dave also did some research on a special interest family history topic for us which resulted in the unexpected location of a gravesite in Ayton. A real bonus.

Rock art with an indigenous guide and a visit to the Wujal Wujal Art Centre were highlights also.

Finally, locating and identifying both tropical wetland and plateau dryland birds far exceeded our expectations. Long experience in the area meant Dave knew when and where to look.

We have you in our diary for next year, Dave. Thanks again."

"We recently joined the 7-day Iron Range tour with Great Northern Tours, and were immensely satisfied with the whole experience. With just four participants, in a great vehicle for the terrain and climate, it was a very comfortable and enjoyable adventure.

David not only knows the birds extremely well, he loves the landscapes and ecosystems of Cape York, where he has lived and worked for many years.

With skillful ease he took us where we could see the distinctive bird species we had hoped to add to our list in this wonderful corner of Australia.

He gave close and careful attention to individual needs and interests, no matter our varying levels of knowledge or fitness, and was a charming guide and host.

We would recommend Great Northern Tours very highly."

"In July we asked David to take us to Lakefield National Park on his three day birding and photography tour. It was a great decision and turned out to be the highlight of our trip to Cape York. David spoke to us before the tour to ascertain our interests and priorities, developing an itinerary that would get the most of the time available.

His knowledge and easy way of sharing information was appreciated and meant we got to know the park much better than we have ever could on our own. David ensured we saw all the rare specialities and much more.

Highlights included Golden-shouldered parrots, Red Goshawks and the rare White-bellied Crimson Finch. Watching and photographing nocturnal birds on Nifold Plains was amazing and something we may not have thought to do ourselves. All of this was undertaken in comfort with a well equipped vehicle and good accommodation.

Finishing the trip drinking real coffee and eating home-made biscuits under a tree full of the endangered Star Finches sums up the special nature of this tour. We highly recommend David and Great Northern Tours."
